‘Our tipper and dosing conveyor have been glass-blasted. As a result, they look just as they did when we started using them in 2015. We often get compliments on them from people who visit our company, such as buyers.’

Mulder’s Top Sprouts

Visiting fellow companies had given Tonnie Mulders ideas on how to efficiently grow bean sprouts in large stainless steel pallet trays. He already had experience growing bean sprouts in the Netherlands, but that involved a lot of physical work. ‘My father had started growing bean sprouts in 1975. He did it in 10-liter buckets. He had learned it that way from the Chinese from whom he had taken over a growing installation. Later, when my brother-in-law and I continued his business, we grew on beds of 5 by 4 meters. We had to scoop off the bean sprouts. That took a lot of effort and the bean sprouts suffered. Years later, when I came up with a better method, I wanted to develop it in the Netherlands.’

Trimming

Through the investor of his company Mulders Top Sprouts, Tonnie came into contact with MCR Machinery and he discussed how the growing could be more automated. ‘I had contact with Jan Pieter Reijnoudt. He thought along very well and developed a tipper and a dosing belt for the stainless steel pallet trays that I had seen elsewhere. The tipper tips the bean sprouts onto the buffer belt, which pulls the bean sprouts apart. This ensures an even supply to the vibrating screen, which is needed to vibrate the green seed coat and carrots off the bean sprouts. It works beautifully.

New engine

Tonnie Mulders has had the tipper and dosing conveyor in use since 2015 and they are still functioning very well. ‘With MCR Machinery we are now working on putting a new drum motor on the buffer/dosing belt. This will give us more capacity and enable us to dose better, so that seed coat and roots are separated from the bean sprouts even better.

Compliments

At Mulders Top Sprouts, they are very satisfied with MCR Machinery. ‘MCR understands business, especially in the field of food products. Many machine builders put up a machine that doesn’t look good after a year. Our machines are made of the right stainless steel and glass-blasted. This keeps them nicer and neater. They look just as they did when we started using them in 2015. People who visit our company, such as customers, often compliment us on them.’
